DESIGNER

CAREER

I have been involved in design for 37 years qualifying as a Kitchen Designer in 1985 and a Bathroom Designer in 1988.

During the early 1980s I was employed by the forward thinking Clark brothers of Hostess Kitchens who were instrumental in introducing modular kitchens into New Zealand homes.

They were also foundation members of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association and encouraged their staff to be involved in this international body.

As a consequence I served on the Auckland Committee of the NKBA for 15 years and was on the Board of Governors for 12 years.

I actively promoted the NKBA and supported their newsletter with photography and articles encouraging design excellence.

TEACHING

I tutored new designers in the basics of industry regulatory requirements, along with ergonomics, balance and proportion. I set and marked their examinations.

My greatest joy, however, was encouraging them to look beyond simple lines and ‘box designing’, igniting their inner design mojo, enabling them to go forward, with confidence, to create the very best design solutions.

MEMBERSHIPS

I have belonged to the Independent Designers Group since inception in 2001. This has allowed me to be part of a continuous learning environment where design ideas are shared and fostered.

Regular travel to design exhibitions has kept me up to date offering my clients extensive product and technical knowledge.

I am also a member of the Design Institute of New Zealand being a Spatial Member since June 2004 and a Professional Member since July 2004.
